Tips for Choosing A Breast Surgeon

Provided by Mr Jonathan Staiano has over 10 years’ experience in plastic surgery and has a dedicated practice specialising in cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgery. He is a full member of BAAPS and BAPRAS.

His tips for a consultation when seeking cosmetic surgery privately are:

  • Is your surgeon a plastic surgeon?
  • Is your surgeon a ‘breast’ specialist?
  • Ask the surgeon – what if I have a complication as a result of my surgery, will I have to pay for additional surgery?
  • Does the price of my surgery include follow-up care such as post-operative appointments?
  • When will my post-operative appointments be? (Ask your surgeon to give you a timeline) For example will post-operative appointments be at 1 week? 1 month? 1 year? 5 years? (Ask: will I have to pay for these?)
  • Ask your surgeon where your operation will be performed – try to make sure you stay close to home as this makes post-operative appointments easier for you.
  • Ask which implants your surgeon has selected for your surgery, and ask him to explain his choices, ask what warranty the implants have, do your research on the selected implants.
  • Ask your surgeon what alternatives there may be in your individual case, he may suggest alternatives such as ‘fat grafting’ if you are welcome to understanding the choices.
